Apollo Computer Inc is the first announced customer for the software emulation of MS-DOS for 68000 family processors that was introduced by Phoenix Technologies Inc, Norwood, Massachusetts about nine months back. Apollo is to market the software on all its 68020 workstations as Domain/PC Emulator. The Soft Co-Processor traps and responds to all input-output functions with emulation software and re-maps the 8086 instruction set to the host processor. Apollo UK also yesterday announced the Domain/PCI-Ring, a hardware-software package that links an MS-DOS micro to the Apollo Token Ring network; Domain/PCI-Enet, to connect an MS-DOS box to Ethernet network for sharing services with Domain workstations is planned. The new Series 4000 station uses a 25MHz 68020 and a 25MHz 68881 floating point co-processor to achieve 4 MIPS performance. It is UKP16,000 for colour, UKP10,000 for monochrome and server versions.
