Phoenix Technologies Ltd has unveiled an OEM design package for pen systems based on the Intel 80386SL Microprocessor SuperSet to run either Go Corp’s PenPoint operating system or Microsoft’s Windows for Pen operating environment. The hardware reference design, called PenLeader, includes Phoenix’s PenBIOS systems softare and the package consists of a ready-to-boot pen computer including an assembled system board, liquid crystal display panel, power supply, hard drive, floppy drive, cables and a reference digitiser and controller for pen-pinput from Wacom. The Phoenix PenBIOS systems software suite has been optimised for PenLeader, though the personal computer version has been expanded to support Microsoft’s Windows for Pen Computing and Go Corp’s PenPoint. Phoenix now offers three variations of PenBIOS – PenBIOS/W for the MS-DOS/Windows-only environment; PenBIOS/G for a PenPoint-only system; and PenBIOS/D for a dual-mode system running Windows for Pen and PenPoint. The Phoenix products will be available to OEM customers from January.
