Peugeot and IBM pool efforts to drive connected car commerce

Opening the IoT Pandora's box for automotive distribution, smarter cities, and retail.

By Joao Lima

Peugeot Citroën and IBM agreed a development deal to analyse data and deliver new services from connected vehicles.

The companies said they will share developing, selling and marketing, delivering and implementing connected services with new and existing clients.

The seven-year venture will enable companies to propose original services in their vehicles and will also focus on commercializing services and building next-generation technical solutions necessary to deliver connected services said the firms.

Brigitte Courtehoux, PSA Peugeot Citroën, said: "In partnership with IBM, we are unleashing connected services to the masses, so consumers can experience a new level of comfort and convenience from their cars, while industries seize new opportunities to deliver personalised services."

Dirk Wollschläger, General Manager, Global Automotive Industry at IBM, said: "Under this partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroën, we are pushing the boundaries of mobility even further to give a broad set of industries the opportunity to tap the promise of the connected car."

Forecasts say by 2020 the number of connected cars globally will reach 250 million.
