Oracle Corp has a new tool for simplifying the installation of Oracle databases on Intel-based servers running Windows NT. Oracle System Sizer 3.0 enables resellers, system integrators, ISVs and customers to calculate optimum hardware requirements for an Oracle database application, including the number of CPUs, amount of memory, and storage capacity needed. Oracle has been working with Dell Computer Corp on the product, and the initial release supports Dell PowerEdge servers, though Oracle says versions for other hardware suppliers will be released in the months ahead. It’s available free from the company’s web site. Oracle launched its first System Sizer in August 1995.
