Oracle has launched Enterprise Manager Ops Center, a new platform for managing physical and virtual Sun environments. It also manages across the entire system lifecycle from discovery to provisioning, updating, monitoring and management.
According to Oracle, the Enterprise Manager Ops Center features include, lifecycle management of Solaris Containers and VM Server for SPARC; support for Solaris Live upgrade that allows customers to automatically patch and update Solaris systems through software dependency engine; and active management of the service processor, virtual stack and operating environments.
The company also introduced Enterprise Manager Management Connector for Ops Center which provides customers with visibility into underlying Sun servers, Oracle Solaris and related virtualisation to help them to resolve issues that could impact application, middleware and database service levels.
The Oracle Enterprise Manager Management Connector allows Ops Center event notifications, hardware faults, operating system performance, and other infrastructure events, to be passed to the Enterprise Manager console, where they become Oracle Enterprise Manager notifications, Oracle said.
The Enterprise Manager Ops Center is available through the packaging options including, Ops Center Provisioning and Patch Automation that provides server and operating system (OS) discovery, OS and firmware provisioning and updating, server and OS monitoring, and resource management; and Ops Center Virtualization Management Pack that provides Solaris Containers and Oracle VM Server for SPARC virtual guest lifecycle management, resource monitoring and management, resource pools, and workload migration.
Richard Sarwal, senior vice president of product development at Oracle, said: As the number of servers proliferates and the adoption of virtualisation accelerates, organizations are becoming increasingly challenged with the complexity of managing their global IT infrastructure.
“With the addition of Ops Center to the Oracle Enterprise Manager product family, customers are able to gain key insights into the capacity and health of their systems, enabling them to take proactive steps to increase flexibility and efficiency and decrease operational costs.
