Oracle Corp duly launched its parallel server – Oracle version 6.2 – which has been benchmarked by Codd & Date at 425.7 transactions per second on a DEC VAXcluster: targeted at intensive transaction processing environments such as banking, insurance retailing and telecommunications, the parallel server technology will be delivered on Ncube, Parsys and Meiko hardware towards year end; in the meantime Pyramid and Sequent will also make the technology available on their machines; in fact the really high-performance Ncube offering will likely appear at the same time – that is year end – as Oracle 7.0.
