Oracle has introduced a new tape library, StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library, a data protection application for midsize and growing businesses.
StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library can be scaled from 30 to 300 slots and up to 900 TB of capacity allowing organisations to expand storage space in a single tape library and significantly reducing service, installation and capital expenditure.
The company said it offers substantial space savings and 40% higher density than competitive products.
The new release offers streamlined management via graphical user interface built on Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Linux.
Users can now view and navigate drive, library and media information without dealing with complex file structure drill-downs as in other applications.
Oracle’s new release can be installed in 30 minutes and capacity can be added using the library’s USB-based auto-discovery system to find new expansion modules.
In addition it can be deployed and expanded at up to 75% lower acquisition cost than comparable midrange applications.
The StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library supports a wide range of open systems environments. Operating systems and platforms include Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux, Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Database Appliance, Oracle’s SPARC and Sun x86 servers, and Oracle’s Sun Storage.
It also helps Oracle in providing integrated data protection and archive application which includes Oracle 11g Recovery Manager, Oracle Secure Backup, Oracle StorageTek Tape Analytics, Oracle’s StorageTek Automated Cartridge System Library Software (ACSLS) and Oracle’s Sun Storage Archive Manager software.
Oracle Hardware Development vice president James Cates said StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library is optimised for midsize and growing companies, delivering enhanced scalability, cost savings and ease of use.
"The StorageTek SL150 delivers the capacity they need today and the headroom to grow with their businesses in the future," Cates said.
