Oracle has added a new product to its Java Platform by releasing a new Micro Edition (Java ME) product portfolio, Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 which said to the requirements of small embedded, low power devices such as micro-controllers and resource-constrained hardware without screens or user interfaces.
According to Oracle, the new client Java runtime is developed upon the same codebase as its entrenched product for mobile handsets, the Oracle Java Wireless Client 3.2.
Java ME Embedded 3.2 allows downloading application and updates quickly, enables remote operation, offers users with an ability to add new capabilities without affecting the current functions, while supports hardware with 130kB RAM and 350kB ROM.
Oracle revealed that the new product is targeted at markets for wireless modules for M2M, industrial and building control, smart grid infrastructure, home automation, and environmental sensors and tracking.
The company has also launched its Java Wireless Client 3.2 and Java ME software development kit (SDK) 3.2.
Developed based on an enhanced Java ME implementation that offers improved application environment for mass-market mobile phones, the new Oracle Java Wireless Client 3.2 leverages standard java specification requests (JSR), Oracle optimisations/APIs and a flexible porting layer.
The new Java Wireless Client 3.2 will support new tooling operations that include memory and network monitoring and on-device tooling, as well as supports dual SIM functionality, Oracle said.
Oracle’s Java ME software development kit (SDK) 3.2 is claimed to provide a total development environment for Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 and Oracle Java Wireless Client 3.2.
The new SDK supports small embedded devices, allows in-field and remote administration and debugging, a new Java ME SDK plug-ins for Eclipse and a new device skin developer.
