Oracle and EEF combine forces to drive the fourth industrial revolution in the UK

News: Can UK manufacturers adapt to changing technology?

By Alexander Sword

A new partnership between IT giant Oracle and manufacturers’ organisation EEF will aim to prepare UK industry for digitisation.

Aiming to tap into the benefits for manufacturers of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), which includes technologies such as big data, the partnership will identify manufacturers’ experience with and understanding of 4IR and explore how the new technologies can support their business goals.

This will include focus groups with manufacturers around the UK.

The partnership will produce an Executive Report that helps industry leaders how they can respond to 4IR, providing guidance on identifying the key barriers, enablers and drivers.

The collaboration will also provide specific practical guidance for how to implement the technologies for individual businesses.

The partnership is based on the premise that cooperation between the technology and manufacturing sectors will be necessary to mutually exploit the benefits of new technologies.

Terry Scuoler, Chief Executive of EEF, said it was “vital that British companies are able to fully realise the opportunities and stay at the forefront of 4IR.

“This will require increasing levels of collaboration between our two sectors, so I am delighted that Oracle will help us engage and inform manufacturers on this crucial theme.”

Mark Newton, VP of Applications at Oracle UK, said: “The British manufacturing industry has always kept up with the pace of innovation, but the advent of the fourth industrial revolution marks one of the biggest technology-driven shifts in modern times.

“Working together with EEF, we seek to provide manufacturers with both the information and practical paths they will need to successfully navigate the changing technology landscape. This represents a significant opportunity for manufacturers to transform their operations and harness the benefits of digital cloud technologies in both the UK and in global marketplaces.”
