The Open Software Foundation took the opportunity to add more members at its European membership meeting, which was held in Brussels at the beginning of November. The nine new members include four hardware manufacturers – Convex Computer Corp, Intel Corp, Intergraph Corp and Sequent Computer Systems Inc – software houses Lachman Associates Inc and HCR Corp, and users DECUS – the DEC user group, the Goddard Space Flight Center, and the University of Texas. Intel Corp, and both software houses are seeking to have it both ways, because they have also aligned themselves with AT&T’s Archer Group, thereby underlining the growing perception of the Foundation as not so much standards body, more a software vendor. The US chapter of DECUS, the Digital Equipment Corporation User Society, has membership of 40,000 companies.
