Novell Inc is claiming to have put together the world’s largest live single-tree network for the intranet setup it’s provided to support more than 250,000 users for five days of chaos at Comdex. Registered Comdex attendees can use roughly 300 workstations on the show floor to send and receive email and to access the internet. The system uses Novell’s GroupWise 5.2 server software running on top of IntranetWare and Window NT, the GroupWise Java client and WebAccess, BorderManager and Radius gateways in place for remote users. Up to 3 million messages were processed on Monday. Compaq Computer Corp pitched in with $3m worth of hardware, with Bay Networks Inc providing the plumbing.
