Workers can print documents straight from their mobile phones, using a new piece of software available from today.
Novell’s product, the iPrint, enables people to use their phones to send files to existing printers via the web – removing the need to buy new hardware.
The development should boost mobile working, with iPrint users able to print on the go, using their phone wherever they are to install printers on their device and then use them to print documents out.
Eric Varness, Novell’s VP of North America sales and global marketing, said: "Because the workforce of today is increasingly mobile Novell is expanding its product offerings to deliver easy-to-use, efficient solutions that allow employees to work anywhere, from any device.
"Novell is creating enterprise solutions that foster employee productivity while maintaining a secure and manageable workplace."
According to the results of a recent International Data Corporation study, the percentage of people who do not print from their mobile devices will decline from nearly 50% in 2012 to 25% in 2015.
However, a large percentage of smartphone and tablet users do not know how to print from their devices, and a large share say their company has not yet enabled mobile printing.
