According to the company, the new Hangzhou R&D center is initially anticipated to employ about 50 engineers and expects to more than double its staff during the next few years. The Hangzhou team will become an extension of the company’s global R&D network, which has development centers in the US, Romania and China.

James Reeves, vice president of product operations at Trapeze Networks, said: China and the entire region is a huge market for Trapeze Networks so we want to develop the product with the right features for this market. Second, we think that tapping the engineering talent in China is giving us a competitive edge. Finally, having a Mandarin-speaking team in Hangzhou working with our manufacturing partners in Taiwan will accelerate our time.

Trapeze Networks opened its Beijing R&D center in 2006 to tap into the talent of engineers and workers and directly address the needs of the China market. According to the company, the R&D center in Hangzhou will focus on developing networking functionality and other organizational roles.

The company’s RingMaster software, a WLAN management suite, enables full lifecycle management of wireless networks. Recently it has brought to market NonStop Wireless that makes wireless networks as reliable as wired ones.
