Netflix, the popular media content site, has launched its mobile VR app on the Google Play store for Google’s Daydream VR platform.
The app, which is to be only supported by the Daydream View headset and smart devices running Android 7.0 Nougat, will allow subscribers to stream content in 360-degree view with immersive viewing experience.
Although only available on Daydream, Netflix is reportedly planning to release new updates to support the Samsung Gear VR and other platforms in coming days.
The Netflix VR app is offered separate to the regular Netflix app; therefore users will need to download the VR-specific app in order to access Netflix content with a virtual reality experience.
Although, the app looks similar to Netflix on Android TV, a virtual interface is embedded to access the content, whereby users can scroll around via the Daydream controller.
The Daydream VR headset, which was released in October 2016, came with applications such as YouTube VR, Hulu VR, Invasion, Star Chart VR, The Wall Street Journal VR, Guardian VR, The New York Times VR and many more. All of which will be accessible on the Daydream app.
Two additional apps were also recently launched on the Google Play store, HBO Now VR and HBO Go VR, which also only supported by Daydream View, offer users two options of virtual theatre to watch Westworld and other related shows.
Similar to Netflix VR, both apps present a virtual screen in home theatre with access to the HBO library of video content.
Google Daydream’s addition of various content providers highlight the companies aim to provide a wide selection of media content with an immersive experience.
