Zebra Technologies and Cloudera are joining forces in order to leverage the power of Hadoop for the benefit of IoT devices.
Cloudera technology is set to be at the core of Zebra’s latest IoT offering, powering the enterprise data hub which will act as the foundation for the latter’s Asset Visibility Service (AVS).
Enabled by Hadoop technology, the AVS is a new IoT visibility offering which collects data from devices in order to offer insight into health, availability and utilisation of devices.
With the new offering, Zebra aims to “make businesses as smart and connected as the world we live in.”
This follows from reports this morning of Zebra Technologies selling its wireless LAN to Extreme Networks for $55m.
“AVS is exactly the type of high value data solution we’ve built Cloudera Enterprise to enable,” said Charles Zedlewski, vice president, Products at Cloudera. “Cloudera Enterprise, at the foundation of Zebra’s enterprise data hub, offers a robust suite of tools to deliver on that promise that directly address enterprise security, governance and manageability requirements. It enables Zebra to not only bring in data from these remote assets, but also combine and correlate that with other data sources both within and outside of the organisation to drive compelling business insights.”
A report from Gartner identifies that the number of organisations adopting IoT will grow by 50 percent this year.
Zebra Asset Visibility Service is made beneficial to industries such as Transportation and Logistics, Manufacturing, Retail and Healthcare.
Tony Cecchin, vice president of Zebra’s Services portfolio said: “AVS provides insights that proactively address and prevent services issues- demonstrating Zebra’s leadership in Internet of Things (IoT) innovation.”
AVS delivers dashboards showing utilisation, performance and availability of business-critical assets. With one glance, the service helps users to account for their full mobile inventory. The AVS is suited to industries such as Transportation and Logistics, Manufacturing, Retail and Healthcare.
