Ericsson is planning to introduce a modular radio system that is designed to address the issues related to building networks on every level.
The radio system will have a flexible architecture with multi-standard, multi-band and multi-layer technology, which is expected to fulfill the demands of network operators.
It will customise each mobile network site to meet the operator’s local requirements. The system is designed to be deliver three times the capacity density with 50% improvement in energy efficiency.
With the commercialisation of 5G, the new modular radio system is expected to meet data demand, which is expected to reach 25 Exabytes per month by 2020, and reduce total cost of ownership by 20%.
Softbank Mobile SVP of Technology Hideyuki Tsukuda said: "As mobile broadband demand continues to grow, we are addressing the connectivity and speed requirements of our consumer and corporate customers by investing in the performance of our mobile network.
"Ericsson’s new modular, compact and energy-efficient radio system enables us to target our network investments precisely where and when they are needed. This helps us to quickly address increased demand and ensure
