Nest, the makers of thermostat and smoke alarm products, is reportedly venturing into the home audio system market.
A recruitment advertisement on the company website mentioned: "technical Head of Audio to lead the development of Nest Audio across hardware and software, present and future."
The person will be leading the Nest Audio team which will include audio electronics, acoustics , audio SW, audio test, and validation for all Nest products, and is likely to be responsible for hiring and mentoring a team.
The role will also see the successful candidate "Develop an audio roadmap for Nest products, including HW and SW, that can support delightful user experiences and innovative feature."
Nest has been related to the audio industry, as the company founder and former Apple executive Tony Fadell was called "father of the iPod" for his contribution towards the development of the music player, reported The Guardian.
Nest was acquired by Google in 2014 for $3.2bn.
The company is trying to compete against Sonos and other players in the media streaming market with its new division.
According to reports, the ad posted hints more towards apps for controlling music than a standalone music streaming service.
