Neo Networks Inc, a Minneapolis-based company preparing to launch parallel processing routing technology, says it will integrate Lucent Technologies Inc’s Inferno operating system into its forthcoming StreamProcessor network forwarding product line. StreamProcessor will automatically update network address tables and routes across corporate intranets and the internet, usually a time consuming manual task. The hardware, said to be based on a massively parallel processor technology using several ASICs will, according to Neo provide performance levels several hundred times faster than today’s router and switch products, at a fraction of the cost. Neo says it evaluated several distributed operating systems before it chose Inferno. The company, a member of the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance, plans to release its first products this quarter.
