In an attempt to wean users off its own and its parent’s older system technologies, NCR Corp is offering a trade-in programme for AT&T Co 3B2, System 7000 (System 7000 was what AT&T called the machines it sourced from Pyramid Technology Corp), NCR Tower, I System and V System users to move to its System 3000 series. Trade-in credits are being offered to US customers on hardware, with incentives for migration software, support and application conversion, until December 17. The company says a Tower or 3B2 user could be eligible for up to $100,000 towards a four-processor Pentium-based NCR 3555 system, or $20,000 towards a dual-processor 80486-based model 3450. NCR is offering other incentives on networking hardware and software, a one-year warranty, client-server system integration, system administration, system back-up and restore and capacity planning, Oracle, Informix or Sybase database software, NCR 6298 disk array subsystems, Unix educational courses and Tower transition tools.
