NAI has rebranded Check Point’s Safe@Office low-end firewall appliances as McAfee Secure-1, and will sell them bundled with McAfee VirusScan AsaP, its automatic-update antivirus subscription service. The AV works on the desktop, not the firewall.

The bundle will be offered 100% through NAI’s channel. The devices support up to 100 users, and are priced at a monthly fee starting at $6.29 per user per month for five users or from $4.16 per user per month for 50 users.

It’s believed to be the first time NAI has offered its own-branded hardware firewall to this end of the market, although Check Point has had its own-brand appliances there for some months.

NAI will now be competing with at least two of its OEMs, SonicWall Inc and Watchguard Technologies Inc. Because all three companies will rely 100% on the channel, it will be a battle for resellers rather than end users.
