Microsoft Corp, on the wrong end of numerous law suits at the moment, has won a trademarks and copyright case in Australia and declared it: highly significant. The Australian Federal Court in Sydney ruled against local software and hardware supplier KT Technology (Aust) Pty Ltd when it admitted it had breached the software giant’s trademarks and copyright by importing and selling counterfeit Microsoft Mouse items, multimedia packs and Windows 95 products. Following an 18-month legal battle, the court ordered the Melbourne-based company to pay damages of $125,000. The products at the center of the proceedings were imported by KT from Hong Kong in 1996.
