Despite persuading Digital Equipment Corp to sell most of its soul for the greater good of Windows NT, Microsoft Corp is expected to announce today that its letting another hardware vendor have a go at selling its hardware on the back of the operating system. Tandem Computers Inc will announce that it will add NT hooks into its ServerNet ‘big bus’ interconnect and other software products, making money by selling hardware to the OEMs that take on ServerNet. The pair are also expected to announce a cross-licensing agreement, whereby Tandem Independent Software Vendors will be targeted to provide new applications aimed at smaller companies as part of a set of ‘commodotized’ Tandem offerings, aimed more at the low end.
