We’re going to open up SMS to enable you to bring patches and updates from a variety of industry partners, Kirill Tatarinov, vice president of Microsoft’s enterprise management division, during a keynote speech.
It’s not just Microsoft download center that SMS talks to, not just the Microsoft Windows Update site, it’s also partners, ISVs and hardware vendors, he said. There’s no such thing as a homogenous enterprise, as much as we would like there to be.
He added that the next SMS, due to ship late next year, will have vulnerability assessment features, basically taking advantage of existing SMS inventorying, giving you the ability to assess vulnerabilities and how your enterprise can potentially be penetrated by intruders.
