Microsoft pulls IoT plug on Intel’s Galileo boards

News: Firm beefs up support for Windows 10 IoT Core running on Raspberry Pi 2.

By Joao Lima

Microsoft will cease to support Windows 8.1 on Galileo Gen 1 and Gen2 development boards due to a lack of hardware capabilities in Intel’s products.

In a statement, Microsoft said: "While we have seen some fantastic innovation with the [Galileo] platform, unfortunately it does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 10 IoT Core."

The company has improved support on Windows 10 IoT Core running on Raspberry Pi2 to help customers migrate their existing Galileo projects to the IoT Core.

Galileo is a piece of hardware used by developers to build IoT applications like robots, smart appliances, wearables, and others.

Windows 8.1 support for Galileo will cease on November 30.
