Norwood, Massachusetts-based Microcom Inc has licensed the hardware technology of 3Com Corp’s ONcore Integrated System – formerly Chipcom Corp’s ONcore Switching System before 3Com’s acquisition of Chipcom – which will be used in a new central site network access system. Microcom is not giving anything away about its plans for ONcore, but the likelihood is that the system will be integrated with Microcom’s LANexpress remote access software. No time-scale for development was forthcoming. Microcom also says that it is still in discussions with 3Com about other potential areas of co-operation in the area of local and wide area network interface technology but again the company refused to say what form any future agreement might take.
