McDonnell Douglas Information Systems Co has won a contract with Air France for the development and installation of a Tymnet dedicated data network. The contract requires McDonnell to prepare customised interfaces to integrate the proprietary protocol used by Air France between its terminals and its Unisys 1100 computer center with Tymnet’s Tymnet engine networking processors. Beginning in 1989, Air France plans to install a multi-host network with between 500 and 1,000 terminals and over 30 Tymnet connection protocols and other software and hardware products. Once the initial network has been tested, Air France plans to expand it to offer open access throughout its international computer installations which include Bull, IBM, Unisys, and DEC hosts. Over 20,000 terminals worldwide will then have access to the hosts on the network.
