Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Lucent Technologies Inc, AT&T Corp’s systems and technology arm until it is spun off, has announced a new seamless integration strategy for its Definity Enterprise Communications Server. The strategy promises to enable customers to expand their Definity systems from the smallest to the largest configuration with little or no changes in basic hardware. Customers can also select from a broad menu of mix- and-match applications to meet specialized needs, such as computer telephony integration, voice and data messaging, video and least-cost routing, says Lucent. The integration strategy is also said to provide additional back-up systems for the smallest configurations, giving all customers access to the full- reliability features of Definity. Previously, customers had to upgrade models to gain significant new capacity or functionality. Tim Wilson, Enterprise Communications Server general manager for the Business Communications Systems unit of Lucent Technologies, promises that the new strategy makes more capacity, more features and more applications available to companies, adding that most current Definity servers can be made ‘seamless’ with minor software changes and a new memory board. All circuit packs, terminals and adjunct systems remain virtually the same. Customers of the latest Definity software release, version 4.0, receive the upgrade free of charge. The starting price for earlier upgrades is $3,000 and the offer is available immediately.
