L&T Infotech has launched its 3GPP LTE UE (user equipment) protocol stack (Ver 8), helping to reduce time-to-market of LTE terminal devices. The offering comprises Access Stratum and Non Access Stratum (NAS) layers.

The company has tested its LTE UE stack with the R&S CMW500 virtual LTE test environment from Rohde & Schwarz using both MLAPI and LLAPI interfaces. LTE devices could be of multi-mode device type, where LTE could reside alongside the existing 3G protocol stack or as standalone LTE devices where it could be packaged as USB dongles.

According to L&T Infotech, based on the form factor and applicability of the LTE stack, RRC and NAS layer is kept modular so that existing 3GPP technology stack could leverage the existing NAS implementation to access the different radio access technology stacks. The modules of L2 are kept modular to provide the flexibility in placing the time-critical components close to hardware and PHY implementations.
