Personal computer vendor Lenovo has unveiled ThinkPad Tablet 2 designed to run on Windows 8 operating system slated to be released in October.

The new device features an optional Fingerprint Reader and biometrically stored passwords, and has a full-sized USB port for users to attach to other in-office devices like monitors or printers.

IT managers can enable VPN access to the ThinkPad Tablet 2 and leverage existing Windows 7 PC management tools to manage application deployments and block users from installing unauthorized apps.

The ThinkPad Tablet 2 runs on Intel Atom Processor-based mobile platform and Windows 8 Pro.

The 10.1-inch tablet measures 9.8 mm thin and weighing less than 600 grams.

Lenovo vice president and general manager of ThinkPad Business Unit Dilip Bhatia said that the new ThinkPad Tablet 2 marries hardware and software to help companies and IT managers the oversight they need to secure and manage their company’s networks and data.

"For the next generation of Lenovo PCs, designed to be great with Windows 8, we’re working closer than ever with Microsoft Corp. and our silicon partners," Bhatia said.
