Northfield, Birmingham-based Kalamazoo Plc lost ?86,000 for the six months to September 30 against profits of ?1.5m last time. Reorganisation costs took the net loss to ?936,000. Kalamazoo notes that a change in the date of its year end to March from July means the results not comparable with the previous interim statement. However, the company expects a profit for the year as a whole. Turnover for the Computer Services Division was flat at ?18.3m, despite the acquisition of Visisystems in May which gave the company an extra ?1.1m in turnover. Kalamazoo blames this on the rise in interest rates and the UK withdrawal from the European exchange rate mechanism. Kalamazoo Business Systems, the company’s printing arm, declared a loss of ?442,000 against profits of ?626,000 last time. The company has cut its headcount in an attempt at repositioning which resulted in costs of ?790,000. On the bright side, KMS Datacare Ltd, Kalamazoo’s hardware maintenance arm, added ?2.5m to annual turnover with the acquisition of European Systems Support Ltd.
