Just Systems Co, the company that pioneered Japanese language word-processing software with its Ichi-Taroo word processor, now the market leader, has announced that it is teaming with Commmunication Intelligence Corp for joint development of a Japanese pen input system for Japanese language personal computers; the jointly-developed system will interface Communication Intelligence’s character recognition technology with Atok, the Kata Kana-to-Kanji conversion front-end developed by Just Systems for Ichi-Taroo, to create a version of Atok for Japanese Pen-DOS; Just Systems said that it will be developing the new interface for computing environments other than MS-DOS (the most popular MS-DOS hardware in Japan being the NEC 9800 series of personal computers – like the early non-compatible so-called IBM Personal Computer clones like the Sirius, the NEC machines still use a version of MS-DOS as the operating system), including the Macintosh System, Windows, OS/2 and Unix.
