Apple Computer Inc’s Steve Jobs is to set out the company’s software strategy on the first day of the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose today (Monday). His keynote speech is expected to cover such areas as the new Allegro version of the MacOS, due for delivery September, and further details on the NextStep and Unix derived Rhapsody. ColorSynch, AppleScript and WebObjects are also expected to be covered in the announcements. There may also be some word of a rumored streaming version of Quicktime that would make the technology more attractive for use on multimedia web sites. Some have suggested that this is the real reason behind Apple’s purchase of Quicktime technology and expertise from Macromedia Inc recently (CI No 3,403). Hardware announcements have been scheduled for coverage on the next day.
