AT&T Co’s Unix System V.4 has received another boost in its battle for supremacy with the Open Software Foundation’s still embryonic OSF/1 Unix: the Information Promotion Agency, which is the body running the Japanese Ministry of International Trade & Industry’s Sigma Project to develop a complete set of hardware and software building blocks to streamline the software development process, has decided to standardise on Unix System V and the System V Interface Definition. The Agency sees System V.4 as a solid standard for software development; AT&T aims to use the connection to design products specifically for the Japanese market.
