Instant Video Technologies Inc of San Francisco has completed the beta version of its commercial Burstware video delivery software products. It will begin shipping this month to an initial group of customers for trial and evaluation, in preparation for release later this year. Burstware includes the Burstware Server 1.0 and Video Player 1.0. The Server uses ‘burst’ protocol to intelligently manage network resources, matching network capacity to client needs. It allocates network bandwidth amongst multiple clients and uses managed bursts of time-based content to deliver high-resolution video and audio to users. The Video Player is a universal player written in Java and is an implementation of the standard Java Media Framework with enhancements to support the burst protocol, enabling different hardware platforms, such as PCs, graphics workstations, Network Computers and set top boxes. It can be configured to display multimedia as part of a web browser or as a stand-alone application.
