EPCglobal, a non-profit standards body, said the Gen2 ISO standard was a significant milestone because it would enable a common ground for RFID vendors around the world. Indeed, many RFID hardware makers in the US and elsewhere have already embraced Gen2.
The publication of this amendment to ISO/IEC 18000-6 gives the EPCglobal UHF Gen2 specification global approval and makes it available to an even wider range of applications, said Steve Halliday, chairman of the ISO sub-group responsible for the standard, in a statement.
Gen2 initially was developed by more than 60 technology companies as a standard upon which to build RFID interfaces and hardware products.
