Aston Villa fans may be about to receive a welcome change to the club fortunes with rumours that Larry Ellison, Oracle CTO and chairman, could buy the club.
Villa, who have just been relegated from the Premier League, have failed to compete financially with many of the other clubs in the league which has resulted in both their relegation and fans calling for owner Randy Lerner to sell the club.
According to reports in The Sun, a British consortium that is linked to Oracle is in talks with Lerner regarding a potential cash injection or acquisition.
Recently two of Villa’s directors have resigned over a disagreement about future strategy, both Mervyn King the former Bank of England governor and David Bernstein have left the club.
Ellison has a record of investing in sports having put money into US tennis and funding a yacht for the Americas Cup.
According to reports, Villa Park chairman Steve Hollis is in extensive negotiations with the consortium.
Villa will be looking to splash the cash in order to return immediately to the Premiership and Ellison could be the man to provide that money. Ellison is seventh richest man on the planet and Oracle has a long history of buying up businesses.
