IoT building momentum as execs eye mass adoption

Research: IoT execs plan implementation of smart solutions over the next 12 months.

By Joao Lima

Enterprises are embracing the IoT era and plan to adopt smart solutions within the next year, if they have not done so already.

In a global IoT decision maker survey, 73% of those taking part said they have already deployed IoT solutions or plan to deploy in the next 12 months.

The enterprise opportunity is where the IoT potential resides both in terms of spending and the number of endpoints connected, according to IDC who conducted the research.

Jon Wrennall, UK&I CTO at Fujitsul told CBR: "[IoT adoption] is about thinking without constraints and then seeing if technology can deliver it – as it is now maturing allowing it to start delivering what we always hope it would".

With UK companies looking to increase IoT spending by 38%, 58% of respondents consider the IoT a strategic initiative, with a further 24% viewing it as transformative.
