Dublin, Ireland-based Iona Technologies Plc is expanding applications for its much-hyped Orbix Object Request Broker and has duly released OrbixManager 1.0, designed to provide enterprise users with local and remote management of Common Object Request Broker Architecture environments. It comprises a set of management tools aimed to enable administrators to browse systems, investigate problems and fix services Iona says the use of SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol gives it seamless integration with administration tools from other vendors. It will also form part of the company’s OrbixO offering, designed as integrated suite of CORBA products for building large-scale corporate systems. Initially set for release on Sun Solaris, HP- UX and Windows NT, OrbixManager Beta 2 will be available in the third quarter of this year. Java support will follow. Meanwhile the company says it’s also rolling out a beta version of Orbix for Sequent Computer Systems’ Dynix/ptx operating system running on its high-end Symmetry range, and plans to test Orbix support for Dynix/ptx on Sequent’s NUMA-Q 2000 hardware platform.
