Digex Inc, the web hosting subsidiary of Intermedia Communications Inc has named Nancy Faigen as its president, joining the Beltsville, Maryland company after 19 years at IBM Corp. Faigen was most recently VP of IBM’s e-business solutions unit and before that set up Big Blue’s global web solutions unit. Faigen, who started work on Monday, says while at IBM she competed against Digex at the web solutions unit and tried to sell stuff to Digex in her most recent job, so she has a good idea of the kind of company she was joining. With its capacity almost full, Digex plans to open at least two new data centers early next year, one at its HQ and one on the west coast. There are also tentative plans for at least one more next year, which it says would increase its capacity ten-fold from its current capacity at two data centers. Faigen says the company has a commitment to expand into Europe in the near future through partnerships, but there are no firms plans just yet. Tampa, Florida-based Intermedia, which bought Digex in June 1997 and also offers local and long distance and data services, brands the old Digex ISP service under its own name now and Digex looks after the web site management side of the business, which includes web hosting, design, development and systems integration. Faigen says the company will be looking to open up more channels through hardware resellers and distributors in the next few quarters. She reports to Intermedia chairman, president and chief executive David Ruberg.
