Metaphor Computer Systems Inc, the company that IBM Corp worked with and finally bought off Dave Liddle when it became clear that conflicts would arise when the Taligent joint venture with Apple Computer Inc embarked on its mission, is expected to enter the Unix arena this week by hooking its decision support software to the Sybase Inc and Red Brick Systems Inc Warehouse databases. The company has added the RS/6000 Database Gateway for Sybase SQL Server to its Data Interpretation System. This gateway provides direct Data Interpretation network-attached access to Sybase databases on the IBM machine as well as on a variety of other hardware systems and operating environments. Data Interpretation access to Sybase can be local, from local network-attached machines, or remote. The implementation is Sybase Open Client/Open Server-compliant, opening the door to other products meeting this standard to be accessed, including the Red Brick Warehouse.
