IBM UK has announced that due to rising costs and deterioration in the value of the pound – which did go down against the dollar but is now climbing back to where it was at the beginning of the year – it is increasing its hardware and software prices. Hardware, One Time Charge, and Program Package software go up from August 21, and Monthly Software charges increase from September 1. Most hardware products will increase by 5%, but the PS/2 laptop, PS/2 Model 70, 3380 disks models, 4381 processors, and 9370 processors remain unchanged. Software charges under IBM Licensed Programs or Program Products will generally increase by 8%. However, monthly software charges on ACF/VTAM V2, MVS/370 Data Facility, ACF/NCP V2, and CICS/DOS/VS will increase by 10%. Also up by 10% are One-Time charges on VSE/Power Version 2, VSE/SP 2.1.0, S/34 and S/36 System Support Programs, and S/34 Utilities. Most AS/400 products are increasing by 10%, including AS/400 Basic, OS/400, AS/400 Personal Computer Support, RPG/400, SQL/400, AS/400 Office, as is CICS/DOS/VS. Even PC-DOS 3.3 is going up by 8%.
