IBM’s Federal Sector Division in Gaithersburg, Maryland has won the seven-year contract to build the Integrated Collection System for the US Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service. The contract, which could reach $340m over its term, is to build a system that will enable the US taxman to increase the automation of operations for collecting overdue taxes. The hardware includes up to 21 3090 mainframes running MVS/ESA and DB2, up to 5,000 PS/2s, up to 10,000 portable workstations, which are to be bought OEM. IBM is partnered by GC Services Inc, Houston, and Andersen Consulting, mainly to handle software conversion work.
