The IBM hardware should be accompanied by a raft of AIX software that is expected to run on both RISC and PS/2 AIX machines and should include some brought over from NeXT Inc hardware, aided by the availability of Objective C from Stepstone Inc, the NeXTStep user interface, and Mach messaging facilities added to AIX: it appears that IBM will target the NextStep interface to true blue customers and the education and scientific market, leaving OSF/Motif for heterogeneous computing sites and to those wanting Presentation Manager-like style – but NextStep users won’t be able to use the X-Window System, as IBM has implemented the interface directly on top of Display Postscript.
