IBM Credit Corp has been mobilized by the parent to get more software developers writing for IBM kit, and has come out with the Software Developers & Business Partners Lease Program, a worldwide offering conceived to provide the latest technology to software vendors and business partners on flexible terms at a low monthly payment. It covers AS/400, RS/6000, storage and networking hardware products to be used solely for software development and demonstration, and provides the equipment at a lease rate of just 1% a month of the list price. System 390 products are eligible but the lease payment will be determined on a special bid basis, and may be greater than 1% of list price – seems a bit silly if IBM wants to keep the things alive. Printing systems products receive the same terms when ordered as a peripheral. The lease program, over a 24-month term, allows the customer to upgrade or replace the model after 12 months and the option of terminating at 18 months with no penalty.
