Breaking all its own rules on product announcements, IBM UK revealed yersterday morning that the new RISC system 6000, which was not scheduled to be announced until 2pm GMT, 9am in th US, will run a data network to link insuramce companies and brokers all over the UK: using IBM’s Information Netowrk and insurance software and hardware supplier Policy Master Plc’s eponymous broking and administration package, it will bring electronic mail, file transfer and other servies to an initial eight insurance companies – leagal & General, Commercial Union, Guardian Royal Exchange, Royal insurance, Eagle Star, General accident, and Sun Alliance.
