IBM has secured a 10 year contract from Spanish telecom major Telefonica to modernise its human resources and finance management processes.

Telefonica offers telecom and broadband services and operates in 21 countries across Europe, Asia, North, Central and South Americas. It was founded in 1924 and has more than 320 million active customers.

Telefonica selected IBM to help in driving three strategic objectives which include simplifying operations, drive efficiencies, and to deliver next generation client experience.

Telefónica, Planning, Projects and Global Services, director, Javier Delgado said: "IBM was chosen as our strategic partner based on their ability to demonstrate market-leading best practices in finance and HR, deliver a superior user experience to Telefónica, and demonstrate automation and digital innovation while respecting the cultural diversity of our clients."

Telefonica is confident that IBM’s expertise in process solutions and cloud platform operations will streamline, modernise, deliver efficient solutions and improve client experience.

IBM Consulting and Global Process Services, General Manager, Jesús Mantas said: "We understand Telefónica’s enduring commitment to its people and its customers."

"Our agreement with Telefónica represents the future of process transformation in the digital age. It delivers the required efficiencies while addressing the cultural and human elements of digital change, reducing risks and operational disruption."

Further to the agreement, IBM will acquire three companies of Tgestiona in the countries of Spain, Argentina and Peru.

Tgestiona was founded in 2001 and has been the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) partner for Telefonica that specialises in providing management solutions for finance and human resources processes in the communications sector.

It serves clients across three continents across Europe, Latin and Central Americas.

IBM already has the experience in working with telecom companies prior to this. It has already worked with Bharti Airtel and Idea, both Indian telecom companies.

In the recent past, IBM has also approached Indian telecom companies with its data analytics tools which can help companies in better understanding their customer demands.
