In a string of announcements, Huawei has unveiled plans to launch an open source OS and the HiLink SDK protocol aimed at the smart IoT home market.
The OS, dubbed Huawei Lite OS, has been designed with the purpose of standardising IoT technologies. The HiLink will be able to understand all programming languages.
Both the OS and the SDK are scheduled to be launched in Q2 2016. The first IoT devices are expected to be realised by partners in China in Q3 next year.
The Lite OS will have a startup time of 700ms and a minimal effect on the battery increasing standby times, the company has claimed.
As for the HiLink protocol, the company plans to have it embedded across consumer devices with the slogan "HiLink Inside".
Huawei’s president George Zhao said that the company wants to enter the smart security and smart lighting devices market by Q4. However, he said that Huawei itself will not be manufacturing end-user devices.
The company also announced at its Honor Event in Shenzhen, China, this weekend that it has partnered with home appliances maker Haier and home solutions provider Broadlink.
Zhao said that the reality of connected things is disappointing as firms have closed ecosystems. He said: "The scenarios being presented are impossible as the devices are from different companies and ecosystem."
Jerry Liu, CEO of Broadlink, said: "We are going to connect HiLink and Lite OS and have access to 150+ enterprises and they will come on board with HiLink.
"We want to improve the ecosystem across the board. HiLink will be the system that brings together the consumer giants together"
Lily, GM of Haeir also said: "If we can create a cross device and platform ecosystem then we can create a community and increase market across the board."
The Lite OS and HLink announcements followed a string of releases by Huawei. It has also released the Honor Pro series of routers, which are based on the HiLink platform. The routers can reach a speed of 1000Mbps and have a 1GHz ARM CPU and 256MB RAM.
Last week the company also released its first smart EasyRET 3.5GHz 8T8R Antenna, which could maximise TDD LTE network capacity and management efficiency for operators.
It also revealed the Application-driven Network (ADN) saying that this will prioritise network applications and service demands in network design and evolution.
Lastly, Huawei also signed signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on OSS with Anite. The MOU allows Anite to access Huawei’s OSS interfaces under OSSii, ensuring their testing product achieve more accurate test result for Huawei’s network infrastructure OSS equipment.
