Hewlett-Packard Co has integrated its HP OpenView Desktop Administrator desktop management software with its TopTools management software, creating what it calls an enterprise scale desktop management system combining hardware, management services and software. TopTools can remotely power-on HP’s Vectra PCs and Kayak PC Workstations and prepare for software upgrades by flashing the BIOS of multiple desktops. OpenView Desktop Administrator can then perform administrative tasks such as software distribution, hardware and software inventory, desktop configuration and software monitoring. TopTools-enabled versions of OpenView Desktop Administrator will be available from next month, free to current users. TopTools is bundled in with HP’s Vectras, Kayaks and Omnibook PC laptop systems.
