HP will be integrating Cisco’s mobility services, which include security, VoWiFI, location services, and guest access, along with the networking giant’s latest WLAN hardware.
The move could be seen as an awkward one for HP, since it does its own WLAN business and could potentially see other opportunities for its products around Cisco’s equipment. But Brian Brouillete, vice president of technology services within HP services told Computer Business Review that the deal was truly device-neutral and is simply a logical extension of the firm’s deep relationship with Cisco.
Asked whether there could be room to recommend, for instance, WiFi-enabled iPaq’s as part of the VoWiFi application component, Brouillete said the idea was a stretch. And he added that there’s no plan to try to actively migrate customers over to HP’s ProCurve equipment. The deal is about customer choice, and it turns out that customers choose Cisco all the time, he said.
