Global PC monitor shipments dropped by 2.9% during the second quarter of 2014 to 32.5 million units, the latest IDC report has revealed.
The analyst firm predicts annual shipments will decline to 107 million units by 2018.
IDC Worldwide PC Monitor Trackers research analyst Keerthi Maganti said: "Despite the overall decline, there was a strong quarter-over-quarter growth rate of 11% in the United States and a slight increase in PC Monitor shipments in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan)(APeJ).
"In addition, the shipment totals were stronger than forecast by 4%."
Among all vendors, Dell topped the list with global market share of 15.4%, followed by Samsung (12.8%), HP (12.0%), Lenovo (9.8%) and LG (9.4%).
During the quarter, the adoption of LED product technology rose with 93% market share, while the 21.x-inches wide screens captured 22.5% share and the aspect ratio of 16:9 continued its domination with 82.4% market share.
Touchscreens still turned out to be a minute segment of the overall market with 0.4% share. Majority of the sales generated were in the US market.
Last month, IDC predicted the PC shipments to decline by 3.7% this year.
